Date and Venue
1. FC Union Berlin will hold a farewell match for Damir Kreilach against HNK Rijeka at Kantrida Stadium on 26 September. The stadium, located on the Kvarner coast and partly built into a cliff, was constructed in 1912. Since 2015 Rijeka has played home matches at Rujevica, but for this special occasion Kantrida was chosen.
Kreilach – Long‑time Player
Damir Kreilach moved from his home club HNK Rijeka to 1. FC Union Berlin in the summer of 2013. During his time in Berlin he made 157 official appearances and remains a favourite among fans. After leaving the club in 2018, Kreilach has left a legacy in both clubs and is still respected in Rijeka and Berlin.
Special Framework for the Farewell
The connection with Rijeka and the fan club Armada Rijeka created a unique setting for the farewell. Supporters from the “Eiserner V.I.R.U.S.” group are planning a trip that includes a flight, hotel accommodation, and a match ticket. Ticket sales details will be announced soon.
Historical Context
Union Berlin is known for organising friendly matches against various clubs: Djurgårdens IF, Queens Park Rangers, Rapid Wien, LASK Linz, FC Aarau, and FC Winterthur. This event further highlighted long‑standing ties with HNK Rijeka.
Expectations
It is expected that several hundred fans from Croatia and Germany will attend, and Kantrida will provide a unique atmosphere for Kreilach’s farewell in Berlin.
